The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination annually to recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C posts in government ministries, departments, and organizations.

SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Specific posts may have additional qualification requirements (e.g., Statistical Investigator requires a degree with Statistics, and Assistant Audit Officer prefers CA/CS/MBA).

Age Limit:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: Varies from 27 to 32 years depending on the post
  • Age relaxation is provided as per government rules for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Ex-Servicemen.

SSC CGL Selection Process

The examination consists of four tiers:

  1. Tier-I (Preliminary Exam) – Online (CBT)

  2. Tier-II (Mains Exam) – Online (CBT)

  3. Tier-III (Descriptive Paper) – Offline (Pen & Paper)

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

Tier-I Exam (Preliminary):

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Negative Marking: 0.50 for each wrong answer

Tier-II Exam (Mains):

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
  • Total Marks: 400 (varies for different papers)
  • Negative Marking: 1 mark for each wrong answer in Paper 1, 0.50 in Paper 2

Tier-III Exam (Descriptive):

  • Mode: Pen & Paper
  • Marks: 100
  • Duration: 60 minutes

Tier-IV (Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test):

  • Required for posts such as Tax Assistant, Assistant Section Officer, etc.

SSC CGL Application Process

  2. Register and fill out the online application form.
  3. Upload the required documents (photograph, signature).
  4. Pay the application fee (₹100 for General/OBC, free for SC/ST/PWD/Women).
  5. Submit the form and take a printout for future reference.
